Your Local Station in HD

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, LA.- Welcome to a look behind the scenes of News Channel 5 HD. Let's take a look at some of the work it takes to bring you our news in high definition.

While it took many months to plan, this weekend was prime time for making the move to high definition. KALB staffers have been busy all weekend putting the plans into action.

"Every part of the staff has done a great job on getting together with this and getting it started," says Production Manager Phillip Taylor.

First to go was our on-air switcher in the control room. While proving to be very reliable- it has been in use since the mid 80's.

Next, a team of carpenters worked to create a new home for our high definition switcher.

After checking cables and connections, the new switcher is put into place and is ready to bring us into the world of high definition news.

"The pictures will look a lot better, a lot sharper, a lot crisper and some of our graphics that we use will also be very much improved," says Chief Engineer Dave Swartz.

From the technical side to the studio crew-- everyone is making sure all the tasks are completed by air time.

"So that we can supply to the viewers of Central Louisiana the very best in television and the very best in HD products," adds Taylor.

Our news team is working on the new changes and enhancements to our broadcasts...all of this as the clock ticks towards show time!

We are very pleased and honored to present to you our award winning KALB newscasts in high definition.
