Family Mourns After Brutal Homicide

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - As family members are grieving the loss of a loved one, police in Natchitoches are trying to solve the puzzle in a brutal homicide that happened late Saturday night. NewsChannel 5's Natalie North has the latest on the case.

Susan Simmons and her fiance Bobby Aterberry were excited to settle into their new home in Natchitoches together. But now, Susan is grieving the loss of her fiance and best friend.

"Bobby was a great person. He was getting his life back straight. He had gone down the wrong hill when he was younger but he was getting back on his feet. He was doing really well, until this happened."

What happened next is something Susan says she will never be able to forget.

"It's hard when he dies in your arms; I still got blood under my fingernails. It's just hard."

Natchitoches police say what happened at this house was an alteration turned deadly.

"During the altercation, three white males by the name of Bradley Hingle, Christopher Shelton, and Andrew ward committed battery on Mr. Bobby Aterberry. They continued to beat him and kick him in the head area until they killed him, and then they fled the scene. One of the suspects, Bradley Hingle, was the boyfriend of misses Simmons [Susan Simmons' daughter] or is the boyfriend of Simmons and he was arrested." Capt. Brad Walker, an investigator from the Natchitoches Police Department.

Two of the suspects were located later that night, and each charged with one count of second- degree murder. The third suspect was found around 12 p.m. on Monday afternoon, and was also charged with one count of second-degree murder.

And Susan is now left to hope for justice and closure.

"These people need to pay for what they did because they had no right to kill my fiance. These people are still alive and people can talk to them, I can't. I can't talk to my fiance. He's dead. It's hard, it's really hard."
