Police Juror, NFL Player Dies

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Natchitoches Parish District 3 Police Juror and former NFL football player J.D. Garrett died of an apparent drowning in the Natchitoches city public swimming pool.

According to reports, Garrett, 74, was a swim instructor and someone was in the pool with him. There's not a cause of death at this time, but officials are spectulating it was natural causes.

Garrett was an All-American football player who played for the NFL. He was also a popular member of the Natchitoches community.

Born on November 28, 1941 in Natchitoches, Garrett attended Grambling State University. He was later drafted by the Boston Patriots in the 8th round in the 1964 AFL Draft. Later, he was drafted and played for the New York Giants in 1964.
