Mickey Shunick and Fort Polk Connection

Posted: Updated:

LEESVILLE, La. - There are new developments this afternoon in the Mickey Shunick case. It turns out the case is now taking a turn from the Lafayette area back here to Cenla. News Channel Five's Nolan Crane picks up the story from Leesville.

That's right, I'm here in Fort Polk where we're learning new developments about Brandon Lavergne, The man charged with the death of missing Lafayette college student Mickey Shunick.

We've learned Brandon Lavergne was a solider here at Fort Polk back in 1999, when he was first accused, and then later convicted of oral sexual battery on a woman in Evangeline Parish. Just four months after being convicted of that crime, he was discharged from the army.

12 years later, the 33 year-old Lavergne is now the main suspect, and the man charged with first degree murder in the disappearance of ULL student, Mickey Shunick.

We'll follow this case as new developments unfold, as new details emerge and as the charges against Brandon Lavergne go forward.
