Jazz Funeral Slated For "Uncle" Lionel Batiste

NEW ORLEANS, La. – According to an official statement from the Batiste family on Friday, the following are the scheduled public events for the late "Uncle Lionel Batiste, a jazz and blues musician and singer from New Orleans. 

Thursday, July 19

Public Viewing

Charbonnet Funeral Home

1615 St. Phillip Street in Treme'

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Friday, July 20

Funeral Service

Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts

805 N. Rampart Street in Armstrong Park

Viewing – 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Funeral - 11 a.m.

Jazz Funeral Procession

From Mahalia Jackson (precise route TBD).

Internment

(Following jazz procession) at  Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4100 Norman Mayer Blvd. in New Orleans 

Batiste, a familiar face on Frenchmen Street and in TV shows and commercials, died on July 8. He was 81.
