NEW ORLEANS, La. - In a letter to The Times-Picayune owner Steven Newhouse, New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Hornets owner Tom Benson expressed interested in purchasing the newspaper, according to WWL-TV Eyewitness News reports on Thursday.
Recently, the city's daily newspaper owners announced it would reduce its print edition to three days per week and focus on its online product, NOLA.com.
In its original form, as The Picayune, the paper first went to press in 1837, making it one of the oldest publications in the region.
