Overview
Today there is a Low Pressure System over
the Ohio River Valley with and is affecting much of the Eastern half of the U.S.
There is a likely chance for rain and a slight risk for severe weather
associated with this system. Elsewhere, a ridge of high pressure is extended over
much of the Gulf coast and will help keep rain chances low for some areas.

Discussion
Right now a ridge of high pressure is extended over the Gulf Coast states and
this feature will help keep rain chances down after an approaching front
completely fizzles out. So, through Friday, expect to see some rain chances with
very little change in the forecast through the weekend. This slight chance for
scattered rain is due to the weak approaching front. The weekend will bring
with it, decreasing rain chances and clearing skies as a ridge of High Pressure
resumes control. Southerly winds will continue to be light to moderate and will
continue to usher even more humidity into the area. This expected ridge of high
pressure will help limit rain chances and bring temperatures up, gradually. We
will keep some rain chance in the forecast due to diurnal conditions. (During
the day as the sun warms the surface of the earth, convection becomes more
likely. So, during the afternoon rain chances will be slight.)
By the beginning of the work week, we will be seeing mostly sunny skies and
temperatures near the century mark with Heat Index values ranging from 107-114.
For the rest of the day
Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with In & Out cloud cover and a
chance for showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon and early evening.
High temperatures will be in 90's with high humidity values making it feel over
the 100 degree mark. Most of the viewing area will see partly cloudy skies and
there will only be a few, scattered showers. As of 12:00pm, only 10% of our
area was seeing rain (In the southern half of the viewing area, to include a
storm about to enter Alexandria.). Winds will remain light to moderate and out
of the south throughout the day. Overnight, expect some clearing with tapering
rain chances and a muggy feel with light and variable winds.
For the rest of the 7day planner
During the next couple of days we will see rain chances decrease. Meanwhile,
temperatures will go through a warming trend. By the beginning of the work week,
expect High temperatures in the upper
90's with Heat Indices ranging from 105-110 and clearing skies.
TODAY...A mixture of clouds and sun with
a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between Noon and 8 PM. Highs
91-98. The peak heat index may reach 108. SW wind 2-13 mph, except stronger and
variable near storms.
THURSDAY
NIGHT...Mostly fair skies and continued muggy conditions. Lows 73-78. S/SW wind
1-6 mph.
