ST. LANDRY PARISH, La.--St. Landry Sheriff's Deputies say an Arnaudville man, who was under the influence of drugs, has been arrested for hitting and killing a pedestrian.

Deputies say 28-year-old Michael Jordan Stelly was driving on Meche Road in the early morning hours of June 8, when he struck Sherwin James Boone who was out for a routine morning walk.

Boone was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz says, "After receiving toxicology results from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, it was learned that Stelly was operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of amphetamine and methamphetamine. It was also learned that Stelly was traveling in excess of the posted speed limit by his own admission."

Stelly is charged with violation of the general speed law, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, and vehicular homicide.

No bond has been set at this time.
