ALEXANDRIA, La.--If your license plate isn't clearly visible to police, you could be at risk for a ticket with some hefty fines.
State Police and local law enforcement are cracking down on obscured license plate tags.
Police say dirty tags and ones covered with novelty frames and plate covers make it hard for them to read.
They also say it's a public safety issue when other drivers can't report cars that are driving recklessly.
So, State Police say they'll be on the lookout.
The fines vary depending on the parish you are in, but could be anywhere from $100 TO $200.
