The high heat continues throughout CenLa. We are currently situated under a ridge of high pressure. The sinking air from the high pressure is what is keeping our temperatures high and our rain chances low. The high pressure ridge will break down slightly by the weekend, allowing for about a 30% chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. In the mean time though, conditions will remain hot and dry! We'll continue to see heat index values between 101-110 degrees through at least Thursday.
A heat advisory is in effect until further notice. This means that due to the high heat index values the risk for heat related illnesses will be high. Try to limit your outdoor activity, especially during the afternoon peak heating hours, Noon-7:00 pm. If you have to be outside make sure to keep hydrated with plenty of fluids, wear light colored and loose fitting clothing, and take frequent breaks.
