ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. - Investigators arrested and charged a woman Wednesday for harboring her brother, who is a convicted sex offender.
Deputies were looking for Jerrel Keith Sonnier, a convicted sex offender for not staying at his reported address.
A warrant for Sonnier's arrest was issued on July 27 by state probation and parole. Agents from probation and parole visited his sister's residence, Meghan Simms, 24, of 11856 Hwy 190 in Opelousas on several occasions after receiving tips that he was staying there.
During a recent visit, authorities say they saw Sonnier flee from the residence on foot. Investigators later arrested Simms for harboring or concealing a sex offender.
In addition, the information gathered during this investigation also led investigators to charge Simms with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
This investigation is still ongoing, and police say further arrests are expected.
