ALEXANDRIA, La. – Police arrested and charged a 46-year-old man with first-degree DWI and hit and run after they responded to an accident off U.S. Hwy 71 last Friday.
On Aug. 3, police say Eugene Marcel, 46, of Georgetown, La., was traveling on U.S. Hwy 71 and N. 3rd Street around 10:31 p.m.
Authorities say Marcel was traveling east in the westbound lane of Hwy 71 when he collided head on with another vehicle traveling west. Marcel fled the area on foot, but was later caught by police.
Investigators say there were four occupants from Alexandria, ages 24 to 26, in the west bound vehicle, and they were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
Marcel was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and later transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center for booking.
There are no updates on the injuries at this time.
