ALEXANDRIA, La. - Law enforcement agencies across the country are joining forces with communities nationwide for National Night Out.
It's an opportunity for neighbors to come together and talk to police about crime, to ask questions, and to really get to know them on a personal level.
The Alexandria community police program, which puts officers on bikes and into neighborhoods, helps to create a bond between neighbors and officers.
About a dozen officers on bikes, patrol streets across the city, serving the people they protect on a personal level.
Police say when residents know their local police officers they're more likely to report crime, which can lead to a safer neighborhood.
