Family Responds To Body Found In Shunick Case

Posted: Updated:

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Shunick's family released this statement to KATC-TV in Lafayette on Tuesday night.

"We appreciate all the efforts of the law enforcement agencies, Searchers and Volunteers. We know that the media has reported that Mickey Shunick's body was found in Evangeline Parish, however, as of right now, and until an official press release is made by the proper officials, we cannot report, either way, that a body found was that of Mickey."

On Tuesday evening, a Lafayette police spokesperson has confirmed with NewsChannel 5/CBS 2 that the task force investigating the disappearance of Mickey Shunick has located a body that's believed to be the missing ULL college student.

Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton also confirmed that police believe the remains found in Evangeline Parish are Mickey Shunick's. However, Craft stresses they are not 100 percent certain during a city-parish council meeting.

The task force assigned to investigate the Shunick's case, along with Evangeline Parish Sheriff deputies, arrived in the area around 3 p.m., which is south of Ville Platte, where authorities say the body of the missing Lafayette student is located.

NewsChannel 5/CBS 2 is on the scene and will bring you updates as this story develops on kalb.com and during our 11 p.m. newscast tonight.
