Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, LA.- If you've been watching the Olympics here on News Channel 5 you'll remember that just last week the USA women's gymnastics team took home the gold.

There's a gymnast right here in CenLa that's hoping to do the same in the 2020 Olympic games. News Channel 5's Rachael Penton brings us this week's 'Olympic Edition' of Young Achiever's Spotlight.

When eight year old Annie Beard watches Olympic gymnasts like Gabby Douglass and Jordan Wieber, she not only sees Olympic gold medallists, but she sees her own goals and aspirations.

"I would love to have an opportunity to go to the Olympics and I would be so happy if I got a gold medal," says Annie.

She's a young achiever whose already well on her way to meeting this goal...and has been since she was only three years old.

"You have to just practice every day the same thing as like a competition and you have to work really hard on every event and you kind of push yourself," adds Annie.

Annie trains full-time during the week. She trains seven hours a day at her gym in Baton Rouge, while also balancing school work, time with friends, and competing in about 10 competitions throughout the year.

It's a full-time commitment not just for Annie, but for the entire family, says her mother Jennifer Beard.

"We've had to make a lot of sacrifices, but every door has been opened for us so far and she is excelling at an unbelievable rate so all of the positive things that have come from this have been really good."

Annie is already working on achieving a level 8 title in the sport...out of only 10 possible....making her one of the youngest gymnasts in the country with a skill level so advanced.

Annie and her family hope to take this talent all the way to the 2020 Olympic games.

It's a goal Annie's mom says she can already relate to after watching mom's cheer on their daughters at the London Olympics.

"They've given up everything for just this one moment and like I said there are no guarantees and to make those extreme sacrifices I can feel a tiny bit of what those moms feel like sitting there," says Beard.

Annie is a young achiever, whose flipping her way into the Olympic spotlight.

"I would be amazed by the opportunity that I have to do gymnastics and do the best that I could do," says Annie.

Annie's mother Jennifer says that her daughter is learning much more than just gymnastics. She says the sport has also taught her daughter focus, discipline, the value of hard work, and organization.
