BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Museum of Art and Louisiana Public Broadcasting will present a unique opportunity on Thursday, Aug. 16 to view both an art exhibit and documentary that celebrate Louisiana's bicentennial through rich visual representations.

Beginning at 5 p.m., a wine and cheese reception will be held at the museum, located on the fifth floor of the Shaw Center for the Performing Arts at 100 Lafayette Street. A tour of the museum's latest exhibition, "Uniquely Louisiana," will also be given by curator Natalie Mault Mead.

"Uniquely Louisiana" celebrates the state's 200th anniversary and explores the many ways contemporary artists portray and are inspired by Louisiana's unique plant and animal life. This exhibition comprises more than 50 paintings, prints, sculptures, mixed media and video installations by artists including David Bates, Brad Bourgoyne, Michael Crespo, Courtney Egan, David Humphreys, Kathryn Hunter and Ed Smith. The exhibition will be on display in the museum from Aug. 11 through Nov. 11.

Following the exhibition tour, visitors can move to the Manship Theatre, located on the first floor of the Shaw Center for the Arts, to view LPB's one-hour documentary, "Louisiana: 200 Years of Statehood." Following the screening, producers Tika Laudun and Al Godoy will be on hand to answer questions about the production.

Narrated by Grammy and Emmy-winning musician and actor Harry Connick, Jr., the documentary looks back at the first 200 years of the state's history. It focuses on the most important people and events that have made Louisiana so unique.

Both events are free and open to the public, with limited seating available.
