Teen Charged in Deadly Crash

Posted: Updated:

ST. LANDRY PARISH, La.--One teen is dead and another charged with vehicular homicide, after an early morning crash in St. Landry Parish.

Louisiana State Police say it happened on LA Highway 363 near Highway 748.

LSP say shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, 19-year-old Chauncey Hesnor of Ville Platte, entered a right curve and crossed the center line. They say Hesnor's truck struck two cement culverts and overturned.

Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injures. He was taken to the hospital.

Hesnor's passenger, 19-year-old Alex Reed of Ville Platte, was pronounced dead by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Troopers say Reed was properly restrained when the crash occurred.

Troopers say they suspect Hesnor was impaired by alcohol. Toxicology samples were taken from Hesnor and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

When he is released from the hospital, Hesnor will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no seatbelt and open alcoholic container.

This crash remains under investigation.
