CenLa Doctor Honored

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, LA.- One local doctor is representing Alexandria as the state's top general physician of the year.

But to his patients he's already an award winner. Dr. Jonathan Hunter is an example of 'What's Right About CenLa.'

On April third of last year Sarah Perry was enjoying a normal Sunday morning worship service at her church....but before long, things took a turn for the worse.

"I felt extremely warm and I dismissed myself to go to the ladies room, but I never made it there."

Sarah soon found out that she had an abdominal anurism...a serious condition...and spent the next three months in intensive care.

It was Alexandria doctor Jonathan Hunter who was there for her from the beginning. She says he is different from any other doctor she's ever had.

"He is caring, compassionate, absolutely genuine," says Perry.

And those are just a few of the reasons why the CenLa native has been chosen as the Louisiana family physician of the year.

"To have won what is basically a lifetime achievement award is completely humbling. To me it's a real affirmation of the work that we do everyday here, taking care of people and building these relationships," says Hunter.

He says that building those relationships is the foundation of what his practice is all about.

"We are not just providing medical care. We are really taking care of people," he adds.

The care and support that Sarah Perry and her family received from Dr. Hunter still resonates with her, especially now that she is in good health. Perry says that to have a doctor like Hunter in our community is a diamond.

"When I count my many many blessings, I count him twice."

The joy that Hunter receives from seeing patients like Perry get back to good health and back to their families, is a feeling that never wears off he says.

"It's meaningful to me. It's meaningful for the people that I work with. That's a life. That's not just somebody that we see in an exam room. Those are people that have families that care about them," says Hunter.

Dr. Jonathan Hunter....he's what's right about CenLa.

"I would recommend Dr. Hunter to the President of the United States," says Perry.

Dr. Hunter did a stint in the military for about eight years before joining his practice. He's also the author of the recently published book, 'Make 'Em Well Doc' which is available for purchase at Hastings.
