Funding Available for Kisatchie Projects

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, LA.- Do you have an idea for improving Kisatchie National Forest?

If so there's a chance your organization could receive financial assistance to make it happen.

The forest's Resource Advisory Council is looking for project ideas that will improve the land and water quality on the forests properties in several CenLa parishes.

The committee has almost $300,000 to spend on projects by the end of this fiscal year.

The money from these projects often goes towards making improvements to things like roads, that are used not just by the forest service, but by the general public.

"Improvements of water structure, re-surfacing hard surface roads and redoing roads that have just had wear and tear on them and have not had the attention that have needed to keep traffic going," says Buck Vandersteen of the Louisiana Forestry Association.

In the past the funding has also been used to improve trail and campground access, repair boat ramps, and to get rid of weeds.

The deadline to apply for funding is September 7. All of the forms and instructions needed to apply can be found at www.fs.usda.gov/kisatchie.
