Aaron Named State's Top Radiologic Technologist

NATCHITOCHES – Dr. Laura Aaron, head of the Department of Allied Health and an associate professor of radiologic science at Northwestern State University, is the 2012 recipient of the Edward Mallinckrodt Award of Excellence. The Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technology presents the award to the state's top radiologic technologist.

A member of Northwestern State's faculty for 14 years, Aaron was a program director from 2003 to 2010 and was named department head in 2010. She is responsible forclinical education and teaching of didactic courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Aaron is involved in curriculum development, faculty supervision and evaluation and program evaluation. She takes part in grant writing, scholarly research, publications and presentations.

Aaron oversaw Northwestern State's Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology interim report and reaccreditation process. She developed the Master of Science in Radiologic Sciences program, which was implemented in 2009, and was involved in developing the Bachelor of Applied Science in Allied Health program, which began in the spring 2012 semester.

Aaron earned a bachelor's degree at McNeese State, a master's at Midwestern State University and a doctorate at Louisiana State University.

As a faculty member, she has obtained nearly $500,000 in grants to enhance programs in the College of Nursing and Allied Health. Aaron has held the Rapides Regional Medical Center Endowed Professorship and received the NSU Alumni Association's Excellence in Teaching Award for the College of Nursing in 2006.

She has been active in state and national professional organizations including the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences and the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technology where she served as president in 2002 and 2006.
