The weather headline over the past few days is the beneficial rainfall. I've collected some hefty totals from our exclusive weather watchers network. Here are the highest amounts during the Saturday-Monday period:
Hickory Hill near Marksville in Avoyelles...4.35
Oakdale...4.07
Marksville...3.05
Simmesport...2.40
A few other points received hardly any rain. Woodworth measured a scant 0.05 inches and Simpson and Otis received non-measurable amounts.
The rain and clouds brought some relief in the oppressive heat of last week. The highest readings in central Louisiana only reached 91 at Bellwood and Natchitoches. It was 85 in the Charles Park Subdivision and 86 at Natchez, Miss., Jonesville, and Williana.
Everyone I talked to welcomed the rain and enjoyed the lower temperatures.
