Man Accused of Robbing, Beating and Running over Victim

Posted: Updated:

ST. LANDRY PARISH, La.—Deputies say a St. Landry Parish man is accused of robbing an acquaintance, beating him with a chair, and then running over him with a car.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Deputies say they got a call from a victim who said an acquaintance, Jeremy Ashworth, was visiting with the victim at his home. The victim said Ashworth suddenly attacked him, knocking him on the floor and striking him several times in the head with a chair.

Investigators say Ashworth then took the victim's wallet and went to get into a car.

The victim told deputies he tried to stop Ashworth by grabbing onto the driver's side car door as the suspect sped off. As the victim let go of the door, he was struck by the vehicle.

Deputies say Ashworth took off in the car, and within the next hour, was spotted by the Jennings Police Department. After pulling the car over, officers say Ashworth took off running and led officers on a short pursuit followed by a foot chase.

Ashworth was taken into custody and is facing charges of flight from an officer and resisting arrest with Jennings Police Department.

He will be transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail with charges of second degree robbery, aggravated battery, and attempted first degree murder.

Ashworth is currently being held at the Jennings Police Department Jail and is expected to be transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail Wednesday evening.

No word on the condition of the victim.
