It was a hot start to the new week with temperatures maxing out in the 90s. Readings tried to get into the upper 90s at Winnfield, Jonesville, Esler Airport, Bellwood, and Hagewood with 96 degrees. Pine Prairie, Simmesport, and Opelousas had 91 degrees.

A sprawling ridge of high pressure is responsible for the hot weather. This feature is also affecting the movement of Tropical Storm Isaac by keeping him on a NW course.

Tuesday will be another hot day with 90s again but by Tuesday night, Isaac will have taken over the forecast and that means rain and wind through Thursday. Winds may gust between 40 and 65 mph, depending on the strength of the storm and how close a location is to it. Rainfall of 8-12 inches remain possible in the Parishes and Counties that border the Mississippi River. This is not the best scenario, nor is it a worst case.

I'll be back Tuesday evening with an update.
