CenLa Red Cross Ready for Isaac

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, LA.- In addition to home owner's and businesses, volunteer organizations are also continuing to gear up for Isaac.

The American Red Cross here in Alexandria has been busy preparing for the storm. All week they've been gathering volunteers to answer phone calls and man storm shelters.

They've also been holding disaster response classes to train new volunteers to help out.

Organizers say they've been working around the clock to keep CenLa safe, while volunteers say all the hard work is worth it.

"We have literally been working around the clock. One of the things about the American Red Cross is that we have to be prepared at a moment's notice to respond so things have been extremely active, literally 24/7 as we rally our resources, make sure we call down our volunteers," says Mary McMinn of the American Red Cross.

"Good. By the time the storm's over you're wore out. It's a good feeling to know that you helped somebody," says volunteer Herbert Boykin.

And the Red Cross wants to remind everyone that they are a non-profit organization so they're always in need of help.

They say their biggest needs include volunteers and monetary donations. To find out how to volunteer or donate, call the Red Cross office at 442-6621.
