The effects of Isaac were felt in central Louisiana Wednesday as most folks saw strong wind and rain.
Most people I spoke with said Isaac gave them more wind than anything else. Gusts reached or exceeded 40 mph in most parishes. The highest winds were observed in Avoyelles, St. Landry, and Evangeline Parishes where gusts exceeded 50 mph. Simmesport clocked wind to 55 mph during the late afternoon. The strong wind blew down trees, littered yards with limbs and branches, and caused power outages.
Most people I spoke with said they had rain but most only reported modest amounts. The heaviest rain fell in the eastern portion of central Louisiana. Natchez, Miss. reported about two inches and Ferriday measured over one inch. Other locations in the western part of central Louisiana received little or no rain.
I expect a lot more rain could fall Thursday as the remnants of Isaac move through the area. There will also be strong wind, possibly up to 65 mph in gusts. Stay aware and be ready to move to a safer place if conditions warrant.
