Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - A man dressed as a clown walking around a local neighborhood with a knife was arrested on drug and trespassing charges Sunday.

On Sept. 2 at 11:15 a.m., the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office received a call in the 1800 block of Ulster Street in Alexandria.

When they arrived on the scene, deputies say Steven J. Hawthorne, 20, of 5803 Sabina Drive in Alexandria left Ulster Street walking toward Sabina Drive.

According to a police report, witnesses say a man dressed like a clown entered a residence on Sabina Drive. When deputies went to the residence, they said someone was looking out the window. Deputies knocked on the front door and the door was opened by Hawthrone, who was dressed like a clown.

Police say his face and hands were painted white and he had a multi-colored wig on his head and a red bandana covering his face.

Police say Hawthorne told deputies that he threw the knife in the bushes. Police say Hawthorne had been smoking marijuana, and they found a pipe containing marijuana beside the stove inside his home.

He was transported to Rapides Parish Detention Center 1 where he was booked on criminal trespass, possession of CDS I and possession of drug paraphernalia.
