LA Hayride Cat Show

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - If you're a cat lover, you'll want to head on over to the Best Western in Alexandria for the Louisiana Hayride Cat Show this weekend.

More than 130 of the felines are on display and are competing for "best in show" at the all-breed cat show.

Experts tell us that cat shows differ from dog shows, because it's more of a "beauty contest." They're not run in a ring or judged on agility, but rather on how well they are presented and groomed.

And, if you're not looking to compete with your cat, it's still a great opportunity for the public to learn more about the breeds if you're looking to buy.

"Well, if you're looking to see a specific type of cat that you've never seen in person - say a Sphinx or a Russian Blue," said Larry Johnson, manager of the show. "You have different breeds that you can actually see in person. People know about Siamese and Persians, but you get to see them in their full coat and they're full wonderful display as to how the breeders present them."

Prizes will be given out throughout the weekend for cats competing in the show. The cat show will run again Sunday, starting at 9 am.
