ALEXANDRIA, La. - There may have been a lot of modern fun happening at Kent House today, but as always, there was still a tribute to the days of old.
Tours of the grounds were available all day, including a look into the blacksmith shop.
E. J. McCann comes to Alexandria four times a year to show how blacksmithing was done back when the Kent House was a functioning plantation.
An open fire and a lot of hammering, and McCann offers a variety of useful, and beautiful, handmade items.
He says it's a way to honor the past.
"We just need to promote the old crafts," McCann says. "To keep them alive, to demonstrate them, to show how their ancestors made a living scratching out any rural areas years ago. And it also produces and allows your creativity to come out."
Mccann says he'll be back for the holiday season.
