NATCHITOCHES, La. - A parish jury has returned a guilty verdict in a murder trial.
Rodney Ian Barnes, 35, was convicted of shooting Chackawanda Beard in 2010. Barnes shot Beard at point blank range in the neck while the two were arguing. The victim's young daughters witnessed the shooting.
This is the second trial for Barnes. He was originally found guilty of the murder last year, but the conviction was overturned by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals because of an error during jury selection. No sentencing date has been set.
