RAPIDES PARISH, La. – There's a new substance that is being abused by teens much like the bath salts and incense craze of a couple of years ago.
According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies haven't received any local reports of of Smiles, which is a new popular drug among teens that is linked to recent overdoses.
Smiles overdoses have been reported in North Dakota, Indiana and Minnesota. But if the internet is any indication, Smiles is on the rise all over the country, authorities say.
The drug's effects have been called a combination of MDMA and LSD, only far more potent.
Authorities also say users have reported a speedy charge along with intense visual and aural hallucinations that can last anywhere from hours to days.
