Louisiana's Economy

ALEXANDRIA, LA.- Louisiana Secretary of Economic Development Stephen Moret has been in CenLa this week talking about the state of Louisiana's economy.

Moret says that the state's economy is booming and about $40,000 new jobs were created over the past year.

He says more people were moving out of the state to look for jobs...but now more are staying because of better job opportunities.

One reason is because state politicians continue to create more attractive reasons for companies to come here...such as competitive incentives like tax breaks.

"Some of the economic incentives that we've had. We've improved them. We've made them more targeted. In some cases we've made them more permanent. Those things are helping put us in a position to more effectively attract new jobs, not only to Alexandria but all across Central Louisiana and our state," says Moret.

Moret says that he thinks CenLa's biggest opportunity is with companies that manufacture durable goods. He hopes that existing companies will continue to grow, while adding some new ones to the mix in the future.
