WOODWORTH, La. -- A national day to celebrate the great outdoors. And, what better place than to do it right here in "Sportsman's Paradise."
Hundreds lined up to take part in National Hunting and Fishing Day in Woodworth Saturday morning.
It's a day for families to come out and learn about biology and nature.
There were hunting, shooting and fishing events. There were also turtle and minnow races, boy scout demonstrations and even a homemade swamp.
Organizers say it's never to early to expose kids to what the outdoors has to offer.
"A lot of children don't have the opportunities to learn these activities at home," said Kristi Butler with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. "Some kids live with parents who weren't raised doing these kinds of outdoor activities. We want to introduce these activities to children who haven't had those opportunities."
In addition to the fun and games, there were also contests and giveaways for those who participated.
