Get It Growing at Phoenix Magnet

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX MAGNET ELEMENTARY - Students spent the day playing in the dirt--not for recess, but for food.

As part of the Good Food Project, Phoenix Magnet started up its own organic garden behind the school.

Led by the 4-H club, kids of all ages came out to learn how to plant vegetables like cabbage, radishes and carrots.

As the garden grows, the kids will get to taste their hard work by experimenting with healthy recipes in the classroom.

Some of the vegetables will even be donated to Manna House.

"I was really surprised by how many parents and students did come out to help us," says Edna Quinney, the 4-H club sponsor. "We are really excited because it's teaching kids the value of good health and nutrition."

Saturday is also the kick-off of a "green thumb" project to raise fund's for upkeep of the garden.
