Cyber Crime ‘Meet And Greet' Friday

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - The Cyber Crime Unit of the Rapides Sheriff's Office will host a "meet and greet" event for owners and employees of area computer-related businesses from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, according to Rapides Parish Sheriff William Earl Hilton.

October has been designated National Cyber Security Awareness Month by the Department of Homeland Security. Since Sheriff William Earl Hilton took over in July, he has assigned three full-time detectives to computer related crimes and created a Cyber Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division.

During the event, officials will explain the mission of the unit and some of its capabilities, and will be available for a question and answer session. Refreshments and a networking session will follow.

This event will take place at the RPSO warehouse facility located at 1709 Odom St. in Alexandria, near the main post office. For more information, call Det. Lt. Mike Stephan at 318-473-6727.
