For the second time this season, a sophomore on Louisiana College's "white shirt" defense has been named the ASC Defensive Player of the Week.
Preston Thibeaux, who garnered the award after a three sack performance in Week 1 against Webber International, was joined this week by sophomore safety Shaquille Lewis.
Lewis, a first year starter from Geismer, La. (Dutchtown High School), picked off 2 Justin Sottilare passes Saturday night, returning them for a total of 47 yards. He also added 2 tackles and a pass breakup in holding the Wesley Wolverines' potent passing game to 205 total passing yards. The Wildcats' defense was able to pick off Wolverines' quarterback Justin Sottilare three times for the first time this season. The other interception was by senior defensive back Brodrick Frederick.
Lewis' 2 interceptions marked the first time a Wildcat defender accomplished the feat since Reggie Calhoun picked off 2 passes against ETBU in 2010.
Also receiving individual player of the week honors were Mary Hardin-Baylor senior quarterback LiDarral Bailey and freshman defensive end Alex Kemp, as well as Texas Lutheran kicker Alex Kemp.
