SHREVEPORT, La. - Last week, the government declared that 110 chimps will no longer be used for research, and 10 chimps will make Chimp Haven their new home.
The Chimp Haven in Shreveport requires $17,000 a year to care for one chimp. The government is only picking up 75 percent of the tab for care, so the haven must pay the remaining sum.
