Massive Job Search

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - Sutherland Global Services is still trying to fill 500 positions to open a call center in Alexandria. News Channel Five's Nolan Crane went to Thursday's job search and shows us why the starting date keeps changing.

Shaletta Cockheran came to the Sutherland Global Services job fair in hopes of re-entering the job market during this hiring frenzy.

"I was looking for an opportunity to do customer service, and I believe that this job is actually a perfect opportunity for me," says Shaletta Cockheran.

Cockheran has been a stay-at-home mom, and now that her kids are in school, she is looking for a day job. She says Sutherland would be a perfect fit.

"I'm very grateful and thankful because it gives the opportunity for people to get stable income and to work," says Shaletta Cockheran.

The associate vice president of operations at Sutherland Global Services says his company wants to fill more than 500 positions here in Alexandria.

"The jobs that were sourcing for today include leadership, training, quality customer service and sales type positions," says Scott Savage.

Based on Thursday's turnout, Savage says he likes what he sees.

"I already see a very solid show rate this morning with the folks that are coming in," says Scott Savage.

With so many openings, job seekers we spoke with say this job search is an answer to their prayers. Now, they hope that there will be enough qualified people to meet Sutherland Global Services demands.

"I've been out of work for about a month now, and I was looking for an opportunity because the bills keep coming," says Lisa Herbert.

"I think this is really a great opportunity not only for the community, but for the people they are looking to hire because there is a lack of quality jobs, and I feel like this company actually brings something to central Louisiana," says Kendrick Thomas.

Sutherland Global Services officials say they're paying more then minimum wage to encourage lot of people to come apply and interview. The people we spoke with say that's good news when it comes to paying the bills.

"I think it's a good opportunity and a blessing for the area," says Lisa Herbert.

"I think every job is a blessing, so this opportunity is really good, and I think it would be good for a lot of people," says Shaletta Cockheran.

If you missed today's job search, then you are in luck. The second Sutherland Global Service search will take place next Tuesday, Oct. 2.
