"Play 60" at Plaucheville Elementary

PLAUCHEVILLE, La. -- Plaucheville Elementary School got a visit from some very special guests Friday.

The school won a contest and now they're getting the chance to take part in a national program.

News Channel Five's Brooke Buford stopped by the school to get a look at "Play 60."

Fifth grader, William Gaspard, loves playing hard and being healthy.

"I play football and candy bar is not in my vocabulary," he said.

And on Friday, he got the chance to be active alongside representatives with his favorite sports team the Saints and a local organization called Health 4 Our Kids.

"This is a great opportunity for us and our school to actually get to do something very fun," said Gaspard.

William got that opportunity because his school, Plaucheville Elementary, won a contest that encouraged the students to eat a healthy breakfast.

"We came out on top," said Mary Guillory, a cafeteria worker at the school. "We came out second in state. First in the parish. That's how we won the Saints to come over here."

Their prize was a visit from the Saints Gatorade "Training Camp." It's part of the NFL "Play 60" campaign that encourages healthy eating and spending an hour playing each day.

"We want to enhance that message and support the NFL program with "Play 60" and kind of bring the Saints experience to these schools so that these kids can remember that they can have a good time while going outside playing," said Andrew Remson, Youth Programs Manager for the Saints. "Eating right and getting the exercise they need and kind of build that up into their lives as they grow older."

Students got a chance to be football players for the day. They learned about tackling, throwing, running and the importance of teamwork.

"A lot of kids go to their Playstations and Xbox 360's," said Remson. "They forget about the wonderful playground they have that is outside."

It was only an hour of his day for William, but it was a day he'll remember for the rest of his life.

Aside from winning the Saints training camp experience, the school also won $3,000 from the Dairy Association.
