AME Conference

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. -- Eight episcopal districts in Central Louisiana are holding their annual conference this week here in Alexandria.

It's the 142nd session of the Central North Louisiana Conference at the Best Western.

It's the time of the year when all of the African Methodist episcopal churches come together for a week long gathering of prayer and talks.

The event started Monday with a banquet and will last through Sunday when pastoral assignments are given out.

Church members say, at the conference, they often talk about social issues that are affecting our country.

"There are a lot of injustices that still plague our land, things that aren't necessarily racially motivated like they were then," said Rev. Maurice Wright Jr., of Bethel AME. "But, when we look at the issues of health care and we look at the population of the prisons, we can see that there are social issues that our church must continue to deal with."

Rev. Wright says the Central Louisiana churches often help out other churches overseas with their missions too.
