VFW Fall Fest

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. -- A local VFW post held its annual Fall Fest this weekend. And, a portion of the money raised is being donated to a good cause.

The ladies auxiliary of post 1736 set up a craft fair and silent auction.

Local artists and vendors were invited to participate to sell their homemade items like jewelry, accessories and woodwork.

This year the group will present a check from the money raised to cancer aid and research to Children's Hospital in New Orleans.

Members say it's all what the VFW is about - giving back.

"Well, that's what we do," said Linda Kieffer, president of the ladies auxiliary. "We are all related to a veteran who has served in a foreign war. That's what we are. We are a service organization, so we try to help anyone we can. That's basically what we're here for, to serve."

Aside from the craft fair, the VFW also invited local politicians who are running for office to speak about the upcoming election.
