ALEXANDRIA, La. - Roscoe Bolton, a beloved member of the Alexandria community was laid to rest at Emmanuel Baptist Church Saturday.
He died Wednesday.
Bolton was honored this year as being the longest serving Rotarian in the world by the local club.
He grew up here in Alexandria and attended Louisiana College. He worked for the insurance agency Alexander and Bolton, and served as chairman of their board. He was also a past president of the Chamber of Commerce.
"I celebrate that he was 99 years old," said Bolton's grandson, Thomas Bolton, Jr. "I thank God that I had him around that long. I think that he was one of the true Southern gentlemen in this town. He lived for God, he applied God in his life. And, that's why all these people will come in the rain. They loved him."
Fellow Rotarian Ed Caplan said, "You know for a guy that is 99 to come every week and see him there, if he was in town and able to do it, he was there. A more dedicated one, you'll never find."
Roscoe Bolton was 99.
