Jindal Announces New Chief of Staff, Commissioner

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. –Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Monday that Paul Rainwater will serve as chief of staff and Kristy Nichols will serve as the commissioner of administration.

Jindal's former chief of staff, Stephen Waguespack, is preparing to leave the governor's office and will be replaced by Rainwater, the former commissioner of administration. The leadership changes were announced Monday afternoon, according to sources briefed on the shake-up.

Rainwater replaced Waguespack who is resigning to pursue opportunities in the private sector. Nichols will replace Rainwater at the Division of Administration. The changes will go into effect on Oct. 15.

In a statement, Jindal said that Waguespack "helped shepherd through monumental policy reforms that will have a lasting and positive impact on our state.  Stephen held multiple positions in the governor's office and was always willing to step up to the plate to help our team. No matter the role he played, his focus remained the same – using every second of every day to help improve the lives of the people of Louisiana."

Jindal said Rainwater has played "a critical role in helping us right-size state government while protecting critical services for our people."

He also said Nichols has been a critical part of the team since the beginning of the administration, and, like Stephen and Paul, she has "always enthusiastically taken on a challenge."
