Gangnam Style

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Gangnam Style is one of the most viewed videos in YouTube history with almost 350 million views. News Channel Five's Nolan Crane shows us why people in Cenla love the Korean song they don't understand.

On July 15, a Korean rapper named Psy uploaded a new music video on YouTube called Gangnam Style, and it has taken the world by storm in less than three months.

"Gangnam Style has had a huge success especially on the Billboard charts. It's number one on the digital charts, it's number one on the YouTube charts and it hit number 28 for the first time last week on our charts, the Top 40 mainstream," says Shy Tyler.

Even though the song is sung in Korean, that doesn't stop people here in central Louisiana from listening to it, Psy's dance moves, where he pretends to ride an imaginary horse is one of the reasons why high school kids love the video.

"I feel like everybody should go out and learn the dance because it's just awesome and catchy and everyone should just Gangnam Style," says Mima Fongbong.

"Opium Gangnam Style, learn the dance and you'll have the time of your life," says Harry Liu.

Even the host of Q93 Shy Tyler loves doing the Gangnam Style dance.

"Every time it comes on Q93 we're up and dancing and having a good time and by the time we have to go back on the air were, sorry guys we're been dancing but it's always a good time. Love Gangnam Style," says Shy Tyler.

But not everyone thinks this is the best song they have ever heard, and some are even surprised that a song sung in Korean could be so popular here in America and in Cenla.

"I think it is ridiculous because we have so many people viewing it including children who are in school, children who are in high school. They are playing it popular on the radio stations and you can't understand anything that they are saying," says Debra Collins.

But these high school students say with a catchy beat, and cool dance, the language of the song doesn't matter when you're having fun.

"I actually have no clue what he is singing about, it's just catchy so I just go ahead and dance to it," says Mima Fongbong.

"You only need to know one phrase, 'Oppa Gangnam Style' like you said and you just get into it," says Harry Liu.

As everyone in Cenla keeps dancing to Gangnam Style, the number of views on YouTube will continue to climb.

Psy's dance moves have even become a hit with celebrities. He has been on the Ellen Show and the Today show. To view the Gangnam Style video, you can click on this link
