GRANT PARISH, La.—Grant Parish Sheriff Steven McCain held an event today to announce he's bringing back a popular program that benefits senior citizens of the parish. He also took time to honor an officer shot in the line of duty.

The triad program has a deputy assigned to check up on those who are sixty and older.

The program was kicked off today with a fish fry.

Along with highlighting the "triad" program, Sheriff McCain took the time to also honor deputy Barkley Roberts with the Law Enforcement Purple Heart award.

Deputy Roberts was shot in the line of duty in 2010 when a man fired shots into the sheriff's office.

Deputy Roberts says it's a miracle he's still alive.

After 15 years with the department he says he will be retiring soon.
