OAKDALE, La. - A special walk Saturday morning to support a local volunteer fire fighter, beloved wife and mother.

Jennifer Clark was diagnosed with stage five brain cancer less than two months ago.

Samantha Perkins: "This is just something that popped up in their family."

But friends and family like Samantha Perkins have rushed to her aid just as quickly. They even organized this "Walk for Jen," a fundraiser to help pay the growing medical bills.

Samantha Perkins: "I can't even give the gratitude of the communities here, the people that volunteered their time."

Before she got sick, Jennifer was a member of the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department. She gave her time for them, and they say they're happy to return the favor.

Jonathan Perkins, Captain, Plainview V.F.D.: "She's helped her community, and now we're helping her."

Organizers say the big turnout is a success, but not a surprise.

Jonathan Perkins: "Everybody could be doing other things but they chose to help."

Those who love Jennifer say it's days like these that keep them going, and give them hope that they can have more days like these.

Kenneth Lambright, Jennifer's brother: "No matter what happens, life's going to go on. And she's going to be good. All it is is a bump in the road. She's going to cross that bump and we're going to be a family and we're going to keep on ticking."

Samantha Perkins says Jennifer's strength has been a lesson--one she plans to keep learning, every day.

Samantha Perkins: "Part of this is to celebrate life, and be close to the ones that you love. Because you don't know. At any point in time, your life can change in the matter of a second."

If you missed Saturday's walk, you can still help support Jen. There's a barbecue October 21 at the Plainview fire station, and an "incrediball" tournament November 3 at the Allen Parish softball field.
