After one of the finest individual performances in school history, Louisiana College linebacker Peter "Phil" Ford has been named the American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Ford boasted one of the best looking defensive stat lines in school history following LC's 29-17 victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday night, finishing with 12 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2 forced fumbles.
Perhaps more importantly, Ford's 2.5 sacks pushed his career total to 17.0, which pushes him pas Harvey Walker for #1 on LC's all-time career sack list. The 2 forced fumbles brought his career total to 10, which is also a new school record. Ford has managed to break both of those records despite only playing in 25 career games to this point over two and a half seasons.
Also of note, the New Orleans native's 4.5 tackles for loss brought his career total to 33.0, which moved him into second place on school's all-time list behind Artus Jackson who finished his career with 42.5.
Ford led a White Shirt defense that held ETBU to only 68 rushing yards and 237 total yards and forced three turnovers. LC remains tops in the ASC in scoring defense, total defense, passing defense, and pass efficiency defense. They Mae ranked #3 in the conference in rush defense.
Ford and the Wildcats will face their toughest test of the season this Saturday as Mary Hardin-Baylor comes to town. The Crusaders bring one of the nation's top rushing offenses to the table, as they are ranked #1 in the ASC in rushing at over 315 yards per game and #2 in scoring at over 48 points per game. Quarterback LiDarrel Bailey is also one of the ASC's best passers, completing 78% of his passes while throwing for 11 touchdowns and no interceptions to this point. He leads the ASC in pass efficiency.
