Bentley Hotel Sold

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La.—According to city leaders, it's a done deal. The Hotel Bentley has officially been sold.

Thursday night, City Councilman Jerry Jones confirmed to News Channel Five that local entrepreneur and businessman Michael Jenkins, closed on the deal to purchase the Bentley Thursday afternoon.

The historic hotel has been closed for eight years.

Jenkins has shared his plans to spent $10 million in private capital and turn part of the Bentley into condos.

Back in August, the city agreed to terms that would include leasing parking spaces near the building to Jenkins and provide planning and utility assistance to get the project off the ground.

Jenkins has said he wants to make downtown Alexandria the place to be, and has said he will

turn the building into 96 hotel rooms and 28 condominiums.

The historic Hotel Bentley was built more than 100 years ago, but in 2004, the Bentley shut its doors.
