Four People In Custody After Fight Near Acadian Elementary

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Four people are in custody Monday afternoon after a fight took place a block away from Acadian Elementary School.

The altercation took place shortly before 3 p.m. Monday. According to sheriff's office reports, a fight broke out involving several juveniles on Gabriel Lane. The Alexandria Police Department reported that the incident happened on the corner of Evangeline and 3rd Street.

Witnesses reported shots being fired, but police said they could not confirm that at this time, and a firearm has not been located.

RPSO deputies and APD officers responded to the scene to break up the fight. Authorities also say the incident was not on school grounds, but school officials are working with law enforcement to determine who was involved.

No Acadian students were involved, officials say. Police say the school was not put on lockdown, and school has ended for the day. APD also said that no students were injured.

Officials also say more suspects left the scene, and they want to question them about the fight.

Out of the four people in custody, one person received medical treatment, but was not taken to the hospital.

The case is open and the incident is still under investigation.
