Rain Chances Rising

Posted: Updated:

October 16

11:55pm

Overview
A ridge of high pressure continues to linger over our area. This will keep rain chances low and wind speeds light to moderate. There is also a Low Pressure System that is developing over the Northern Plains. This system will move quickly and along the northern border of the U.S. during the next couple of days.

Discussion
This ridge of High Pressure will remain in place through mid-week, this week. The approaching cold front will move through Central Louisiana Wednesday night. Then, more high pressure will take over, in the wake of this system. So, for the next day and a half, expect In & Out clouds, followed by increasing clouds and rising rain chances in advance of the front. Temperatures will remain pleasant and highs will climb into the 80's with a light to moderate wind out of the South. As the front passes through on Wednesday night, we will see a very likely chance for rain with a low risk for severe weather. As of right now, the best chance for severe weather will be in North Louisiana.

For the rest of the day
Expect a mixture of sunshine and cloud cover. Partly to mostly cloudy skies with In & Out cloud cover. All of this is in advance of an approaching cold front. Expect winds to be light to moderate and out of the South & East. Temperatures will be Seasonably Comfortable. Overnight, temperatures will be a little warmer due to the cloud cover that is expected.
At times, cloud cover can act like a blanket and keep heat close to the surface of the Earth. As the Earth's Surface radiates heat at night, the clouds trap the heat and keep it from escaping the lower atmosphere. This, in turn, has the same effect that a blanket would.
Because of this process, we will not see temperatures drop as low, again tonight.

For the rest of the 7day planner
Wednesday, expect to see increasing clouds and rising rain chances. The front will pass through the area overnight, Wednesday. Thursday, we will see a continued chance for early rain, followed by clearing skies and falling rain chances. In the wake of this next cold front, expect much cooler temperatures for the weekend.

TODAY...In & Out clouds and pleasant. Highs 78-84. South, becoming SE wind 6-14 mph.

TUESDAY NIGHT...Fair to partly cloudy skies and not as cool. Lows in the 50s. South, becoming SE wind 2-8 mph.
