Overview
There is a Low Pressure System over the NE U.S. that is moving East, over
toward the Atlantic Coast. There is a cold front associated with it that is
stretched South, over the Atlantic Ocean. In the wake of this front, a ridge of
high pressure is digging in and bringing Sunny skies, cooler temperatures and a
dry weather pattern to the eastern half of the nation.
Discussion
In the wake of a front, this ridge of High Pressure is building in and will
influence our weather through the weekend and into the beginning of the work
week. This ridge will bring with it, clear skies, chilly mornings, pleasant
conditions and low rain chances. This pattern will continue for several days
with a gradual warming trend expected through Monday.
For the rest of the day
Expect to see clear skies and a moderate wind that will calm overnight. Highs
will be in a pleasant range with very little moisture, resulting in low
humidity values during the day. Tonight, we will see another cool evening and a
chilly start in the morning with lows dipping well into the lower 40's (Close
to the Dew Point).
When there is very little cloud cover and
a light wind, the environment will experience a condition referred to as "Radiational
Cooling".
The combination of cloudless skies (At night, when the surface is not being
warmed by the sun, clouds act like a blanket and trap heat from escaping the
atmosphere and keeping it close to the surface.) and little to no wind (When
wind moves across the surface, it caused friction. Friction causes some heat as
particles and molecules in the air collide. The lack of wind takes one more
heat source out of the equation.) temperatures can get even cooler and bottom
out. In cases such as these, keep an eye on the dew point. The air temperature
cannot drop below that value. The dew point will vary a little bit but will not
move very fast unless a front is passing over an area At That Time.
For the rest of the 7day planner
Through Saturday, expect clear skies and much cooler conditions. There will be
a gradual warming trend through the weekend. Come Sunday, expect cloud cover to
begin sneaking back into the forecast. Rain chances will remain low through the
7day planner.
TODAY... Expect plenty of sunshine and some
light clouds this afternoon. Otherwise, pleasant conditions. Highs 76-82.
Winds, becoming NW 5-15mph.
FRIDAY NIGHT...Fair
skies and a chilly night. Lows in the 40's. Light & Variable winds.
*Saturday is the Komen Race For The Cure and registration begins at 6:30am. We
will see a very chilly start with lows in the low to mid 40's. Conditions will
start warming during the midday hours.
